Kenyans React After Millie Odhiambo Shares Video of Matiang’i Dancing

Kenyans online have shared mixed reactions after Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo posted a light-hearted comment on her Facebook page about former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i dancing at a political event.

The legislator captioned the video with the words: Wheee siasa can make people walk in unfamiliar territory,” sparking a wave of comments from amused and critical followers alike.

Some Kenyans responded with humor. Timothy K. Korir drew a comic parallel, narrating his experience with fluctuating bus fares. Nairobi to Nakuru is Ksh800, Nakuru to Nairobi is Ksh400. I asked the conductor why the difference and yet the distance is the same, and he too asked me: why is it that Monday to Friday is 5 days and Friday to Monday is 3 days? From that day niliacha kiherehere kabisa,” he joked.

Others took a more serious tone, expressing discomfort with Matiang’i’s participation in campaign-style theatrics. Arita Coaches wrote: “Aki nimecheka tangu nione Daktari akidance hivi. I said to myself, woooi politics though! Reducing a serious technocratic to this just for votes pthooo! I love him though but whoever is forcing my big brother to dance like this know we are not happy as a family.”

Another user, Onyonyi Isaack, criticized the lack of originality in the campaign songs accompanying Matiang’i’s performance, saying: “Originality also lacking. They are riding on a version of our ‘Raila Tibiim’ song of the 2017 elections yet we are heading to 2027.”

The post has since gained traction, reflecting how the public continues to view Matiang’i not just as a seasoned administrator, but also as a political figure navigating new terrains.

As the 2027 election season begins to take shape, such moments are fueling debate about how leaders are reshaping their images in the eyes of the electorate.
