Mandera South MP Abdul Haro Kore Lauded as Champion for Education Rights, Unveils Major Development at Elwak TVET
Mandera South Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdul Haro Kore, continues to earn widespread praise for his transformative leadership and steadfast commitment to education, with the latest development being the planned expansion of Elwak Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute.
Hon. Kore revealed that concrete plans are underway to elevate the status of Elwak TVET to a regional hub of excellence in technical education. On Tuesday, engineers from the National Government conducted a site visit to assess soil quality in preparation for constructing a five-storey hostel facility at the institution.
“This is a milestone,” said Hon. Kore. “Once completed, the hostel will provide much-needed boarding facilities for students from Shimbir Fatuma, Wargadud, Kotulo wards, and even from neighboring Elwak in Somalia. We want to make Elwak TVET a state-of-the-art institution accessible to students from far-flung areas.”
In addition to the hostel project, Hon. Kore also announced the imminent purchase of a college bus to ease transportation challenges for students and staff. “The bus will enhance logistics, especially for outreach and industry-based learning,” he said.
Elwak TVET currently offers a variety of competency-based certificate and diploma programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the job market. It plays a vital role in equipping young people, especially those unable to join university, with practical, hands-on training for employment in diverse sectors.
The MP’s efforts have not gone unnoticed on the continental stage. He was recently honored by the Independent Pan-African Youth Parliament as the Champion for Education Rights in Africa, a prestigious recognition that reflects his tireless advocacy for educational equity and youth empowerment.
“I am deeply grateful for this incredible honor and recognition,” Hon. Kore said. “Receiving this award is truly humbling, and I thank all those who continue to support and believe in the mission to transform education across Africa.”
With these ongoing initiatives, Hon. Abdul Haro Kore is solidifying his legacy as a visionary leader devoted to uplifting communities through education and infrastructure development.
