Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen Assesses ID Registration Progress in Trans-Nzoia County

Interior Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen today made a high-level visit to the ACC Central Division grounds in Saboti Sub-County, Trans-Nzoia County, to assess the ongoing national identity card registration exercise. The CS observed the significant turnout of first-time applicants seeking the crucial identification document.

The visit comes in the wake of key policy reforms introduced by the government this year, including the abolition of extra-vetting requirements and waiver of fees for first-time ID applicants — a move that has spurred a sharp rise in registration numbers across previously underserved regions.

“As a border county, Trans-Nzoia was previously affected by the stringent extra-vetting procedures. Now that President Dr. William Ruto has removed these barriers, many more wananchi are coming forward to exercise their right to identity,” said CS Murkomen.

To further boost outreach and ensure that no eligible Kenyan is left behind, the Ministry of Interior is set to roll out portable, battery-powered Live Capture Unit (LCU) machines. These mobile units will enable civil registration teams to penetrate deeper into grassroots and remote areas, ensuring accessibility for all.

The CS was accompanied by a delegation of top government officials, including Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Secretary of National Registration Dr. Christopher Wanjau, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, Regional AP Commander John Amadadi, Trans-Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, County Police Commander Paul M. Wambugu, and County AP Commander Charles Lokwang’ar, among others.

Murkomen reaffirmed the government's commitment to efficient service delivery and citizen empowerment through accessible documentation services. “Identity is the foundation of access to public services and full participation in our economy and democracy. We will continue to make this process easier, faster, and more inclusive,” he added.
