“I Was Ejected from Parliament, Yet I Paid My Dues — Unlike Others Who Just Bought a Tie,” Says Babu Owino

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has lashed out after being ejected from the National Assembly chambers, questioning the credibility and qualifications of some of his fellow legislators.

In a fiery statement released shortly after his removal, Babu expressed dismay over what he termed a continued culture of silencing educated and progressive voices in Parliament.

“I spent six years of my life pursuing legal education — four years for my undergraduate law degree and two more at the Kenya School of Law, including pupillage, before being admitted to the Bar,” said the vocal MP. “Yet, I’m the one being ejected from Parliament while others who spent five minutes buying a tie now parade themselves as lawmakers.”

The Embakasi East MP, known for his unfiltered commentary and youthful energy, defended his track record in Parliament, stating that his legal training equips him to critically analyze laws and stand up for his constituents.

“This House should be a sanctuary for ideas, intellect, and the rule of law — not a fashion show for tie-wearing pretenders,” Babu added. “When we allow Parliament to be reduced to a stage for theatrics and sycophancy, we betray the dreams of millions of Kenyans who deserve better.”

Sources within Parliament indicate that Babu Owino was ordered out of the chambers following an altercation over a contentious bill, though the Speaker's office has yet to release an official statement on the incident.

In recent years, Babu has been a polarizing figure — praised for his academic achievements and criticized for his confrontational style. Nonetheless, he remains one of the most followed and influential young politicians in the country.

“I earned my seat through brains, books, and ballots,” he concluded. “Parliament must be for those who understand the law, not those who stumbled into leadership with empty rhetoric and cheap suits.”
