Gachagua and Kalonzo Lead Western Kenya Tour in Liberation Cause
By ERNEST BANDI
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have launched a high-profile tour of the Western Kenya region, describing their campaign as a national "liberation cause" aimed at transforming the country.
On the first day of the tour yesterday, the two leaders visited Vihiga and Kakamega counties, accompanied by a host of opposition figures including DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during a rally in Kakamega, Kalonzo said the opposition remains united in its quest to fight injustice and promote peace, vowing to stand firm with the people of Kenya.
“Yesterday in Vihiga and Kakamega, we saw the strength of people who want better and deserve better,” Kalonzo told the cheering crowd. He further alleged that attempts were made to block the Kakamega rally but were thwarted by brave Gen Z youth who stood up for their right to assemble.
Gachagua, who has been increasingly vocal in recent months, expressed gratitude to the people of Western Kenya for what he termed a warm and energetic welcome.
“We ended day one of our western tour with a huge crowd in Nalaha, Navakholo. The support and energy you showed us gives us hope for a better Kenya,” he said.
The leaders did not hold back in their criticism of the current administration, with speakers accusing the government of failing to address the high cost of living, rising unemployment, and what they called a "crisis of leadership."
Their tour comes amid growing public discontent, particularly among the youth, who have taken to the streets in recent weeks to demand reforms under the #GenZ protests.
The opposition tour is expected to continue across the Western region in the coming days, as part of a broader national movement the leaders say is intended to rally Kenyans toward unity, accountability, and change.
