Artist Vicky Brilliance Cries Foul Over Unpaid Performance by Office of Baringo Woman Representative
Celebrated secular artist Vicky Brilliance has come out publicly to express her disappointment and frustration over unpaid dues for a performance she delivered at a women’s empowerment event organized by the Office of the Baringo County Woman Representative, Hon. Florence Chematia.
According to Vicky, she was officially invited to perform at the function last week and honored the invitation in good faith, with a prior agreement on her payment. However, despite repeated follow-ups since the event, she claims she has not received the agreed compensation.
“My calls and messages have either gone unanswered or been met with vague promises and unnecessary delays,” Vicky stated in her official release. “To add insult to injury, Hon. Chematia personally harassed me, even going as far as belittling me and vowing never to recommend me to others.”
The artist also shared that she initially received a partial payment of KSh 50,000, which was later reversed after a phone call from the organizers, requesting her to return the funds temporarily so that local artists could be cleared first — a gesture she says she agreed to in good faith.
“They assured me that my full payment would follow shortly, but that has not happened to date,” she lamented.
Vicky was quick to clarify that her statement is not driven by malice but is meant to highlight the need for fair treatment and respect for artists who rely on their talents to earn a living.
“I have performed at many high-profile events including the Mogotio women empowerment event hosted by Hon. Reuben Kiborek, the Kimalel goat auction, and others in Nandi and Kapseret, and have never encountered such issues,” she said.
She concluded her statement by thanking the people of Baringo for their warm reception during the event and expressed gratitude to Bomet Woman Representative Linet Toto, who supported her and fellow artists on their return journey.
“Artists deserve dignity and prompt payment. Empowerment should be holistic — it includes respecting and supporting creatives who help bring these events to life,” Vicky emphasized.
