Governor Bii Leads Distribution of 44,000 Coffee Seedlings to Empower Farmers in Uasin Gishu

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii today presided over the distribution of 44,000 high-quality coffee seedlings to farmers from Kaptagat, Ainabkoi/Olare, Kapsoya, Tembelio, and Kimumu Wards. The event, held at Naiberi Primary School grounds, is part of the county government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable agriculture and wealth creation among residents.

Accompanied by Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea, former Deputy Governor Hon. Daniel Chemno, and Members of the County Assembly Hon. Jonathan Ng’etich (Kaptagat), Hon. Gilbert Chepkonga (Ainabkoi/Olare), and Hon. Isaac Kirwa (Kapsoya), Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering farmers through innovative and impactful agribusiness initiatives.

“Our goal is to transform agriculture from subsistence to a profitable commercial venture. By distributing these 44,000 coffee seedlings today, we are taking another step toward our ambitious target of distributing one million seedlings across the county,” said Governor Bii.

The Governor noted that coffee farming has immense potential for income generation and long-term economic stability for smallholder farmers, especially in highland areas suited to the crop. He emphasized the importance of supporting farmers with not just inputs, but also extension services, training, and market linkages.

“We are not just giving out seedlings—we are cultivating hope, income, and prosperity for our people. This is a long-term investment in our farmers and in the future of Uasin Gishu,” he added.

The event drew hundreds of farmers eager to participate in the county’s coffee revival programme. Governor Bii encouraged them to take ownership of the initiative, practice good crop management, and work together through cooperatives to ensure better market access and bargaining power.
