Activist Lauds President Ruto’s Visionary Leadership After Signing of Sovereign Wealth Fund Bill

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has praised President William Ruto for what he described as bold, visionary and transformative leadership following the signing into law of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Bill, 2026.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy Eldoret, Ngetich said the new law marks a major step towards securing Kenya’s economic future and protecting national wealth for generations to come.

“We wish to congratulate His Excellency President William Ruto for the great vision he has for Kenya, both now and in the future. The Sovereign Wealth Fund is a historic milestone that will help transform Kenya into a stronger and more economically stable nation,” Ngetich said.

He also thanked Parliament for passing the Bill despite opposition, saying legislators had demonstrated commitment to the country’s long-term development agenda.

Ngetich said Kenya’s ambition of achieving the standards of developed economies such as Singapore and Norway was realistic, provided the country embraces sound governance, fiscal discipline and long-term planning.

He noted that countries that have successfully established sovereign wealth funds first created strong legal frameworks to shield the funds from short-term political interference and ensure that they benefit future generations.

“Singapore and Norway built strong sovereign wealth funds through independent governance, strict fiscal discipline and proper legal safeguards. Kenya is now taking the same path, and this is a journey that every patriotic Kenyan should support,” he said.

The activist described President Ruto as a leader with the courage and determination to steer Kenya towards a modern and prosperous economy.

He said the President had remained focused despite criticism, mockery and political opposition, adding that his leadership was anchored on a long-term vision for national transformation.

“President Ruto is a visionary leader whose legacy is founded on bold and energetic ideas that can withstand challenges and deliver results. His focus is not merely political power but generational transformation that will benefit even unborn Kenyans,” Ngetich said.

According to Ngetich, a sovereign wealth fund will serve as an important economic pillar by converting proceeds from natural resources, strategic assets and state investments into long-term national wealth.

He said the fund would help Kenya prepare for periods of financial turbulence caused by global pandemics, wars, commodity supply disruptions and other external shocks.

Ngetich said the Sovereign Wealth Fund will be built around three key pillars: stabilization, strategic infrastructure investment and future generations savings.

The stabilization component, he explained, will cushion the national economy and government budgets against unexpected shocks.

The strategic infrastructure investment component will support high-impact domestic projects without excessive dependence on borrowed capital.

The future generations component will create a long-term savings base and preserve strategic capital for Kenyans yet to be born.

“With proper implementation, Kenya will have an opportunity to revive stalled development projects using locally generated capital. The fund can become an economic buffer, finance strategic infrastructure and preserve national wealth for future generations,” he said.

Ngetich urged Kenyans to avoid politicising every government initiative, saying the Sovereign Wealth Fund should be viewed as a national project that goes beyond party politics and individual leaders.

He said propaganda, tribalism and political rivalry should not be allowed to derail initiatives aimed at unlocking Kenya’s economic potential.

“This is not President Ruto’s personal project. It is a Kenyan dream towards the realisation of the country’s dormant potential. The President is simply providing leadership and direction,” Ngetich said.

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy Eldoret reaffirmed its support for the President’s economic agenda, saying Kenya must develop a culture of appreciating progressive ideas that can improve the lives of citizens and secure the country’s future.
