“Samuge” Leads Kenya’s Shooting Charge as IPSC Glory Hunt Shifts Focus to Naivasha Championship
Charles Mugendi Njue, popularly known in shooting circles as “Samuge,” is spearheading Kenya’s preparations for a busy international practical shooting calendar, as the country eyes stronger representation on the global stage.
Fresh from an impressive performance at the IPSC Level III Championship, where he finished 15th among some of the world’s top competitors, Mugendi is now setting his sights on leading Team Kenya at the upcoming continental showdown in Naivasha.
The next major assignment will take place from July 15th to 19th, 2026, when the iconic Hado Shooting Range hosts the highly anticipated IPSC Level III Championship. The event is expected to attract elite shooters from across the globe, turning Naivasha into a hub of precision shooting and international sporting excellence.
Mugendi will lead Team Kenya in the Standard Category, a division known for its high level of technical skill, speed, accuracy and mental discipline. His recent top-15 finish in South Africa has significantly boosted Kenya’s profile in the fast-growing sport of practical shooting.
The South African event served as a major confidence booster for the Kenyan contingent, proving that local shooters can compete at an elite international level despite facing seasoned professionals from established shooting nations.
Beyond the Naivasha competition, the championship is also being viewed as a critical stepping stone for Team Kenya’s preparations for the IPSC Pan American Championship scheduled for August 2026 in Aruba.
Officials say the Naivasha event will provide valuable experience, sharpening the team’s accuracy, coordination and composure ahead of the global contest.
Kenya’s growing footprint in international practical shooting continues to highlight the rising standards within the discipline, with security officers and civilian athletes increasingly representing the country in high-level competitions.
The sport, which demands precision under pressure, has also become a platform for showcasing professionalism, discipline and tactical excellence among Kenyan competitors.
As preparations intensify, Mugendi remains a central figure in the national team setup, with expectations high that he will once again deliver a strong performance and inspire a new generation of shooters.
With the countdown underway, attention now shifts to Naivasha, where Kenya will not only host the world but also seek to prove its growing dominance in the sport of practical shooting.
