Family feud cools down after years of tension

For more than six years, a family from eastern Kenya lived under one roof but in constant disagreement. What began as a disagreement over inheritance slowly grew into deep resentment, affecting siblings, cousins, and even children who did not understand the root of the conflict. Family gatherings became rare, and when they happened, they often ended in arguments.

“It reached a point where we avoided each other,” one family member said. “Even funerals were tense. Everyone carried anger.” Elders tried to intervene several times, but each attempt collapsed as old wounds were reopened.

Tension without peace

According to the family, the emotional strain affected daily life. Children sensed the hostility, while younger members began distancing themselves completely. “We were related by blood, but there was no unity,” another relative said. “It felt like a curse hanging over the family.”

After years of frustration, one elder suggested a traditional approach aimed at restoring harmony and clearing long standing bitterness. The process focused on reconciliation rituals and herbal cleansing meant to calm emotions and encourage understanding. “It was not about blaming anyone,” the elder said. “It was about restoring peace.”

Calm returns

Within a short time, the family noticed changes. Conversations that once ended in shouting became calm. Members who had not spoken in years began greeting each other again. “We sat together and talked without anger,” one sibling said. “That had not happened in a long time.”

Gradually, trust began to rebuild. Joint family decisions were made peacefully, and children started interacting freely again. Neighbours observed the difference, noting a calmer atmosphere around the homestead.

Traditional practitioners explain that unresolved family disputes can linger when emotional and spiritual balance is disturbed. Reconciliation practices are designed to soften hearts, encourage forgiveness, and restore unity. When combined with genuine willingness from those involved, healing becomes possible.
