New Dawn in Kapchelos Village as KPLC Installs Transformer to Boost Electrification

A wave of optimism swept through Kapchelos Village in Kapsowar Ward today after the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) installed a new transformer, marking a major milestone in the community’s march toward full electrification. The installation, carried out early this morning, is expected to significantly accelerate the rural electrification scheme that has been underway in the region.

Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich led residents in celebrating the development, describing the moment as a “new dawn” for Kapchelos Village—one that promises to transform lives, open economic opportunities, and enhance living standards.

“The process of electricity connectivity in Kapchelos Village has taken a notch higher with the installation of this transformer,” the MP said. “I am well aware that not all residents have benefitted from the scheme yet, but I want to assure them that it is just a matter of time before everyone is connected to the national grid.”

The electrification project is widely seen as a crucial step toward bridging the development gap between rural and urban areas. With many homes still relying on lanterns, firewood, and unreliable alternative sources of light, the transformer is expected to bring long-awaited relief. Local leaders say the development will support students who study at night, improve security, boost small-scale businesses, and strengthen communication within the community.

Residents have expressed gratitude to both local leadership and national agencies for prioritizing their needs. Many believe that the arrival of electricity will stimulate growth in sectors such as agribusiness, retail, and cottage industries—areas that have long been constrained by the absence of reliable power.

The MP emphasized that his office remains committed to ensuring equitable development across Marakwet West and reassured villagers that plans are underway to extend connectivity to households that were not included in the initial phase.

“This is only the beginning,” he added. “We shall not rest until every home in Kapchelos and the wider Kapsowar Ward is connected. To God be the glory.”

The installation is part of a broader government initiative aimed at expanding rural electrification and powering up remote villages across the country. For Kapchelos Village, the newly installed transformer symbolizes hope, progress, and a brighter future—literally and figuratively.
