KWS Evaluates FY2024/2025 Performance, Reaffirms Commitment to Conservation and Service Excellence
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has undergone its FY2024/2025 Performance Contract Evaluation, conducted by the Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSPMU) under the State Department for National Government Coordination, Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
The evaluation session brought together the KWS Board of Trustees, led by Chairman Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Walter Raria Koipaton, alongside senior management and representatives from the PSPMU.
In his remarks, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Koipaton lauded KWS staff for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication in delivering on targets aligned with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the KWS Strategic Plan 2024–2028. He commended the PSPMU team for their pivotal role in promoting accountability and continuous improvement within public service institutions.
“Our achievements reflect the unwavering dedication of KWS staff and our collective resolve to conserve Kenya’s wildlife heritage while supporting national development goals,” said Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Koipaton.
Among the key milestones recorded during the financial year was the recruitment and deployment of additional rangers, which has significantly enhanced field presence, wildlife protection, and community collaboration. The Service also reported notable progress in addressing human–wildlife conflict through translocations, rapid response operations, and the expansion of community-based conservation programs.
Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga highlighted KWS’s progress in tourism recovery, digital transformation, infrastructure development, and implementation of climate resilience initiatives, despite persistent funding constraints.
“We are proud of the strides made in restoring habitats, diversifying tourism experiences, and embracing technology in our operations. Moving forward, we remain committed to strengthening partnerships and ensuring excellence in conservation and service delivery,” Prof. Kanga said.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to promoting strong leadership, innovation, and strategic partnerships that foster sustainability, inclusivity, and accountability in wildlife conservation.
As KWS looks ahead, its focus remains on advancing ecosystem protection, enhancing community engagement, and positioning Kenya as a global leader in sustainable wildlife conservation and tourism.
