Uasin Gishu Benchmarks Nandi’s Taifa Care Success in Health Digitization Drive

In a bid to transform its healthcare delivery systems, the County Government of Uasin Gishu has embarked on a strategic benchmarking mission to Nandi County to study the successful implementation of the Taifa Care digital health program.

The visit, conducted on Thursday, brought together officials from Uasin Gishu County, Moi University’s Africa Health Collaborative Project, and representatives from the Mastercard Foundation. The delegation was led by Dr. Evans Kiprotich, Uasin Gishu’s Director for Medical Services, and Ms. Jacky Sitienei of Moi University.

The team was warmly received by Nandi County Health Executive, Dr. Angeline Jepchirchir, before proceeding to Kabiyet Sub-County Hospital — the flagship site for Taifa Care’s full-scale health digitization.

At Kabiyet, the delegation experienced a comprehensive walkthrough of the hospital’s digitized patient journey, spanning triage, laboratory, pharmacy, maternity, and inpatient services. The facility demonstrated its fully integrated, paperless system that has revolutionized patient management, boosted operational efficiency, and enhanced transparency in service delivery.

Digitizing healthcare is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” Dr. Kiprotich remarked. “We are committed to learning from Nandi’s success to ensure that our rollout is seamless and impactful.”

The visit comes at a critical time as Uasin Gishu prepares to implement the Taifa Care system across its own healthcare facilities, aiming to improve patient outcomes and streamline operations.

Dr. Jepchirchir underscored the system’s effectiveness, noting its ability to provide real-time tracking of medical supplies, patient records, and clinical services.

“We can now track every drug, every test, and every patient interaction in real time,” she explained. “This has dramatically improved our ability to serve residents effectively and transparently.”

The benchmarking mission highlights a growing trend of inter-county collaboration in Kenya’s health sector, with counties leveraging shared experiences and innovations to modernize healthcare delivery. The support of key development partners, particularly the Mastercard Foundation, continues to play a crucial role in scaling such initiatives.

With Taifa Care’s model gaining recognition as a blueprint for county-level health digitization, the success witnessed in Nandi County is set to inspire similar transformations nationwide — ushering in a new era of citizen-centered, technology-driven healthcare.
