Press Statement by Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, Member of Parliament for Githunguri Constituency

The recent revelations of rising maternal and infant deaths in Kiambu County hospitals paint a grim picture of the state of healthcare in our county. The confirmed loss of **165 infants and 5 mothers** within our public health facilities is not only alarming but also unacceptable by every measure of human dignity.

It is deeply concerning that instead of demonstrating compassion and taking decisive action, Governor Wamatangi has dismissed this crisis as “political smearing.” To trivialize the loss of innocent lives is to show the highest form of contempt for the very people he was elected to serve.

As leaders, we must affirm that **the loss of even a single mother or child due to preventable causes cannot and should not be justified**. Every life matters, and every death in our health facilities must be met with accountability, not denial.

The people of Kiambu deserve a county government that takes responsibility, prioritizes healthcare, and treats human life with the utmost respect. Governor Wamatangi’s continued inaction and insensitivity have failed the people of Kiambu.

I call upon the relevant national institutions, professional bodies, and civil society organizations to urgently intervene and ensure that the healthcare crisis in Kiambu is addressed without delay. We cannot allow negligence, incompetence, and disregard for life to continue under the guise of politics.
