Kandara Residents Association Welcomes Court Ruling in Delmonte Land Case

The Kandara Residents Association, through its Secretary General Geoffrey Kairu, welcomes the ruling in the matter ELCL/E002/2023 where Delmonte had filed a petition against the **Speaker of the National Assembly, National Land Commission, Ministry of Lands, Murang’a County Government, and Kiambu County Government**, with the Association listed as an Interested Party.

The court on **30th September 2025** dismissed Delmonte’s petition, thereby upholding the **recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on Lands dated 5th October 2023**. The key recommendations include:

1. **Surrender of excess land** held by Delmonte to the Government of Kenya.

2. **Equitable allocation of the land** between Murang’a and Kiambu Counties for community use and development.

3. **Recognition of Kandara residents’ historical land rights** in the redistribution process.

4. **Transparent renewal of Delmonte’s leases** in full compliance with Kenyan land laws.

The Kandara Residents Association views this as a **landmark victory for justice, accountability, and community rights**. The ruling paves the way for fair land use, equitable distribution, and the safeguarding of the welfare of local communities.

The Secretary General Geoffrey Kairu flanked by Florence Mwaura the organising secretary have welcomed the Court outcome and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to remain vigilant in ensuring that the recommendations are fully implemented for the benefit of the people of Kandara and the wider community.
