Hope on the Horizon: MP Mary Emase Launches Construction of Long-Awaited Obwaku–Omasa Road

 

After years of navigating dusty paths and muddy trails, residents of Atapara Village and the wider Apokor area finally have reason to celebrate. Teso South MP Mary Emase has officially launched the construction of the Obwaku–Omasa Road, a long-overdue project that promises to transform daily life for thousands.

The launch event, held at the heart of Atapara Village in Amukura Central Ward, was more than just a political affair—it was a moment of relief, pride, and renewed hope for a community that has waited far too long for proper infrastructure.

“For years, this road has been a burden,” said Mama Achieng, a local vegetable vendor. “When it rained, we couldn’t move. Our children would miss school, and taking someone to the hospital was almost impossible. Today, we finally feel seen.”

MP Emase, accompanied by local leaders and members of the KeRRA Roads Committee, addressed the gathered crowd with a message of unity and progress.

“This road has been a pain point for all of us,” Emase said. “But today, we break that cycle. The contractor is on site, the machines are here, and the work begins now. This is not just about tarmac—it’s about connecting lives, livelihoods, and opportunities.”

The Obwaku–Omasa Road connects Apokor to Akobwait, and for years it has been in a dire state, severely limiting movement and economic activity. Traders struggled to get goods to market, boda boda riders often got stuck in the mud, and emergencies became nightmares.

With construction now officially underway, expectations are high. Residents hope the new road will open up business, improve access to schools and clinics, and bring new investment into the area.

KeRRA representatives assured the community that the project would be monitored closely to ensure quality and timely completion.

“We’re not just building a road—we’re building trust with the people,” said a KeRRA official at the event.

As construction begins, MP Emase urged residents to take pride in the project and help protect it.

“Let us own this road. Let’s guard it jealously. This is ours—not just for now, but for generations to come,” she said.
