The National Construction Authority (NCA) has officially kicked off its 3rd Annual Contractors Conference, rallying stakeholders around a common vision to modernize Kenya’s construction industry through technology, training, and regulatory excellence.

Themed “Innovatively integrating the National Building Code 2024 into the current technological construction and infrastructure landscape,” the conference brings together engineers, contractors, architects, regulators, and fundis from across the country for three days of knowledge sharing, capacity building, and collaboration.

The event was officially graced by Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome, who applauded the NCA for spearheading reforms that promote compliance, professionalism, and innovation in Kenya’s construction space. She emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for sustainable building practices while safeguarding the interests of citizens.

Eng Maurice Akech MBS, the Executive Director of NCA, welcomed participants and underscored the Authority’s mission to steer the sector toward a safer, smarter, and more accountable future.

“Welcome to the 3rd Annual Contractors Conference,” he said. “Our focus this year is on innovation and integration. The National Building Code 2024 is not just a legal framework. It is a transformative tool that must speak to the technologies and realities on the ground.”

The new code, developed through wide consultation, aims to harmonize construction standards, enhance safety, and streamline approval processes. Its successful implementation, the NCA says, requires countrywide training, clear communication, and inclusive engagement with professionals and artisans alike.

Adv Mercy Okiro, Chairperson of the NCA Board, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to empowering grassroots builders.

“We are supporting simplified Code guidelines and mobile training clinics, ensuring that every fundi, every site, and every county has access to the tools and knowledge they need to build right,” she said.

The Authority is also leveraging the platform to promote digital permitting systems, contractor grading reforms, and green building innovations that align with Kenya’s sustainable development goals.

Participants praised the NCA’s proactive approach in equipping industry players to meet the evolving demands of the sector, especially in light of rapid urbanization and government infrastructure priorities.

As Kenya continues to expand its road, housing, and utility networks, the NCA remains at the forefront of ensuring quality, safety, and professionalism in every structure built. This year’s conference sends a clear message that the future of construction is smart, inclusive, and firmly grounded in accountability.
