Limuru MP Kiragu Chege Launches Bodaboda Empowerment Program Worth Ksh 1.1 Million
Limuru Member of Parliament Eng. Kiragu Chege has officially launched Phase One of the Limuru Bodaboda Empowerment Program, allocating Ksh 1.1 million to support boda boda operators across the constituency. The launch event was held at PCEA Joshua Matenjwa Church Hall in Limuru Central Ward, drawing dozens of operators and community leaders.
The initiative, part of the government’s broader Kenya Kwanza Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, aims to equip motorcycle taxi operators with financial support and vital skills to enhance safety and sustainability in the sector.
“As your MP, I am committed to empowering every sector of our constituency,” Chege stated. “Boda boda riders are a backbone of local transport and commerce, and it is only right they receive the support they deserve.”
Chege announced that, through his office, operators without driving licenses will be enrolled in certified driving schools, a move aimed at reducing road accidents and instilling professionalism in the industry.
The MP also took the opportunity to update riders on key road infrastructure projects, some of which have resumed, with more set to begin soon. He assured them that improved road networks would ease transport and boost their daily income.
Beyond transport, Chege encouraged boda boda operators to support the “Tap to Eat” feeding program, which targets school children from vulnerable households. “No child should learn on an empty stomach,” he emphasized.
In a heartfelt closing, Chege urged unity among Limuru residents: “Ours is a diverse constituency. We must reject tribalism and work together for peace, harmony, and lasting development.”
The Limuru Bodaboda Empowerment Program is expected to continue in phases, with more operators set to benefit in the coming months as part of the MP’s ongoing commitment to grassroots economic empowerment.
