Police Seize Narcotic Drugs, Arrest Suspect in Kakamega During Routine Patrol
In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking, police officers from Matungu Police Station have seized a quantity of suspected narcotic drugs and arrested one suspect in an operation conducted earlier today along the Matungu–Busia Road.
The interception occurred during a routine patrol at Matungu Market, where a suspicious motor vehicle was stopped for a standard check. Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a brown briefcase tucked beneath the seat.
Inside the briefcase, police found two polythene-wrapped packages containing a dry, leafy substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa, a controlled narcotic under Kenyan law.
The suspect, who was driving the vehicle, was immediately arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at Matungu Police Station. The seized substances have been secured as evidence and are set to undergo forensic analysis. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) reaffirmed its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks involved in the distribution of illegal substances across the country.
“This successful operation is a result of intensified intelligence-led patrols and ongoing efforts to rid our communities of harmful and illicit drugs. We remain vigilant and committed to bringing perpetrators to justice,” read the statement in part.
The NPS further urged members of the public to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities that may be linked to drug-related crimes.
