In a heartfelt address marking this year’s Mother’s Day, Busia County Women Representative Catherine Omanyo celebrated the resilience, strength, and unwavering dedication of mothers and women across the nation. Speaking at a community event held in Nambale, Omanyo paid tribute to the countless women who form the backbone of families and communities.
“Today, we celebrate not just motherhood, but womanhood in all its strength and compassion. The sacrifices women make—often unseen and unthanked—are the bedrock of our society,” said Hon. Omanyo. “From raising families to leading businesses, from toiling on farms to making policy, women are building Kenya each and every day.”
She emphasized the importance of recognizing and empowering women beyond ceremonial occasions, urging both national and county governments to invest more in maternal healthcare, education for girls, and protection against gender-based violence.
Omanyo, known for her advocacy on education and women’s rights, also highlighted the essential role of mother figures—grandmothers, aunts, guardians, and community leaders—whose care nurtures entire generations.
“We must honor women not just with words, but with action. Better healthcare, access to credit, equal representation, and safe communities—that’s how we show appreciation,” she said.
The event featured local women’s groups, performances by schoolchildren, and free maternal health checkups organized in partnership with local clinics. Hon. Omanyo pledged to continue fighting for policies that uplift women and promised more community-based programs focused on economic empowerment and education.
“As we say Happy Mother’s Day, let it be a reminder that the future of our nation is in the hands of its women. When we invest in them, we invest in the success of Kenya.”
