Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) and President of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), Mr. Douglas Kanja, today hosted a high-level delegation from AFRIPOL, the German Embassy, and the German Federal Police at NPS Headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting, led by AFRIPOL Executive Director Amb. Jalel Chelba, brought together key stakeholders to discuss enhanced cooperation in critical areas including cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and transnational organized crime.
IG Kanja lauded the long-standing partnership with the German Federal Police and Embassy, which he said has significantly contributed to the professional development of the Service through joint training initiatives and capacity-building programs. He noted these efforts have strengthened the NPS’s ability to respond to modern policing challenges and supported its ongoing digital transformation.
Representing the German delegation, Mr. Stefan Koch underscored the importance of establishing a lasting framework for future collaborations. “This meeting provides a valuable platform to expand projects that create tangible impact not only in Kenya but across the region,” he said. He emphasized the need for sustained dialogue and enhanced networks to combat transnational crime effectively.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mr. Mohamed Amin echoed the call for deeper cooperation, particularly in digital forensics and other technological domains. He noted that Germany’s advanced expertise will be instrumental in bolstering the DCI’s investigative capabilities, especially in handling complex cases such as cybercrime and homicide.
Also in attendance from AFRIPOL were Dr. Benaired Mohamed, Head of Training and Capacity Building, and Mr. Thom Allan, Divisional Training Officer Forensic.
The German Federal Police delegation included Ms. Stephanie Preuss, Ms. Doris Laube, Mr. Sebastian Schulte, Mr. Zafer El-Mokdad, and Mr. Gabriel Stracker.
Senior officials from the National Police Service present included NPS Secretary Administration/Accounting Officer Ms. Bernice Lemedeket, Director of Administration Dr. Violet Chesang, Principal Deputy to the IG Mr. Mathew Kutoh, Deputy Director Forensic Laboratory Mr. Mwangi Gitau, Director of Corporate Communication Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, Director ICT Mr. Samuel Mwilu, Director Legal Mr. Amos Omugah, Director Reforms Mr. John Kamau, and Directorate of Planning officers Mr. James Murithi and Mr. Josiah Mutula.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen operational ties and develop comprehensive strategies to tackle emerging security threats across Africa.
