Busia Woman Representative Hon. Catherine Omanyo on Thursday conducted a series of impactful community engagements in Samia Sub-County, underscoring her commitment to education, mentorship, and inclusive development.

The day began at St. Peter's Girls Secondary School Busibi in Nambuku-Namboboto Ward, where Hon. Omanyo donated essential home science equipment, courtesy of a partnership with friends from Russia. The donation aims to boost practical learning and skills development among the students, especially in domestic sciences.

“This visit was not just about handing over equipment. It was a chance to engage with the school community, understand their challenges firsthand, and co-create sustainable solutions that focus on infrastructure, academics, and mentorship,” she said.

Hon. Omanyo emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to transform the education sector and improve the learning environment in rural schools.

She then proceeded to Namduru Girls Secondary School on a similar mission, engaging staff and students and reiterating her office’s commitment to supporting girl-child education and empowerment through direct interventions.

Later in the day, Hon. Omanyo joined ODM Women Delegates from Marachi West Ward for a hearty discussion on party matters, grassroots mobilization, and the role of women in leadership and political participation. The meeting served as a platform for feedback, solidarity, and strategic planning ahead of upcoming party activities.

In a heartwarming gesture, Hon. Omanyo also made a surprise visit to Okisimo Primary School, where she held a mentor-mentee session with pupils. The discussion focused on career goals, skill development, and personal growth, aimed at inspiring the next generation of leaders.

A standout moment came when she donated adjustable, modern crutches to a Grade Six pupil living with a disability, replacing the pupil’s old, improvised wooden crutches.

“Every child deserves equal opportunities and dignity. Small interventions like these can restore confidence and transform lives,” Hon. Omanyo noted.

She reaffirmed her commitment to continue advocating for inclusive education, social support, and youth mentorship, which she said are central pillars of her development agenda for Busia County.

The Woman Representative’s engagements throughout the day were hailed by community members and local leaders as transformative and timely, reinforcing her reputation as a proactive and people-centered leader.
