Harrison Kariuki Celebrates Assent of Disability Bill as Historic Win for PWDs

By John Kariuki

The Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing persons with disabilities in Kirinyaga County, Harrison Kariuki, has welcomed the enactment of the Persons with Disabilities Bill, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of rights and dignity for millions of Kenyans living with disabilities.

The Bill, signed into law by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, provides a strong legal foundation to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) across various sectors. It guarantees equal access to education, employment, healthcare, political participation, and public spaces.

As a dedicated advocate for the rights of PWDs, Kariuki has been instrumental in pushing for legislative reforms aimed at removing long-standing barriers that have denied persons with disabilities equal opportunities. His leadership continues to inspire progress at both county and national levels.

The President also assented to the County Governments Additional Allocation Bill, 2025, which seeks to boost funding to county governments. This law aims to promote more equitable resource distribution and enhance the effectiveness of devolved service delivery.

The twin legislative milestones represent a major step forward in the government’s broader commitment to inclusivity, devolution, and equitable development. They also affirm the crucial role of leaders like Harrison Kariuki in championing the rights of marginalized communities.
