A Journey of Resilience, Hope, and Gratitude

At Tophill Hospital, we are honored to be part of countless life-changing stories. Today, we share the inspiring journey of Daniel Kipsanga, a dedicated teacher from Kilgoris, Narok County, who has overcome unimaginable challenges thanks to the exceptional care of Dr. Florentius Koech at Mediheal Hospital.
In 2017, Daniel began experiencing severe pain in his waist, which gradually worsened to the point where he was unable to walk, sleep, or even perform basic bodily functions. The pain was so debilitating that it led to a period of deep frustration and fear. After seeking treatment from various hospitals without answers, Daniel was eventually referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. It was there that he was informed he needed surgery but was also told his condition was too advanced to treat effectively.
Determined not to give up, Daniel was then admitted to Mediheal Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious spinal cord issue. His condition required immediate surgery to repair his spine, and Dr. Florentius Koech took on the challenge. The surgery was successful, but unfortunately, after just one month, the pain returned. A second surgery was performed, followed by even more procedures to address the ongoing deterioration of his spine.
Dr. Koech explained that Daniel’s condition was particularly complex due to an inherited connective tissue disorder that caused the degeneration of his bones and joints. "His spine, though repaired multiple times, continued to degenerate. Each surgery helped, but as one level was fixed, the next would deteriorate,” Dr. Koech shared. Over the years, Daniel underwent more than five surgeries in an attempt to correct the damage, with each procedure providing relief, though the degeneration continued.
Daniel’s journey was not easy. He was in constant pain and even described feeling like a child again due to the severity of the situation. “I couldn’t walk, sleep, or even move without pain. It was a dark time in my life, and I had no idea if things would ever get better,” he recalls. But thanks to Dr. Koech’s expertise and compassion, Daniel’s condition has improved, and he is now able to live a more comfortable life.
"Dr. Koech doesn’t just think about the money; he genuinely cares about his patients' well-being. I’m finally feeling better, and I’m deeply grateful for everything he’s done for me,” Daniel says, reflecting on the years of care and attention he received.
While Daniel’s spine is in better condition now, he still faces the challenge of joint pain due to his inherited condition. However, he remains hopeful for the future and continues to trust Dr. Koech and his team to manage his condition with the same dedication and expertise that has carried him this far. “The road has been long and difficult, but I am confident that with Dr. Koech’s help, I will continue to improve,” Daniel adds.
At Tophill Hospital, we are committed to supporting patients like Daniel throughout their healing journeys. We understand the physical, emotional, and mental toll that health challenges can take, and we’re proud to provide the compassionate care that helps our patients regain their strength and hope for a brighter future.
💙 "Thank you to Dr. Koech and the entire team at Tophill Hospital. Your dedication and care have made all the difference in my life. I pray that God continues to bless you for the work you do." – Daniel Kipsanga
