Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has declared that he will seek re-election in the 2027 General Election, saying he is ready to face any political competition that may emerge ahead of the polls.

Natembeya said the entry of additional political players into the contest would not deter him from pursuing a second term as governor, maintaining that voters would ultimately have the final say on who leads the county.

Speaking on the emerging political landscape, Natembeya claimed that President William Ruto was supporting or bringing more political players into the region as part of efforts to challenge his political influence.

The governor, however, said he remained confident in his political standing and would not be intimidated by the number of leaders seeking to compete against him in 2027.

Natembeya's declaration comes as political activity continues to gather momentum across the country ahead of the next General Election, with leaders positioning themselves and building alliances in anticipation of the polls.

The governor said he was prepared for the contest and would continue engaging residents as he seeks to secure another term at the helm of Trans Nzoia County.

He also warned that political competition should not be allowed to create divisions among residents, calling on leaders and their supporters to prioritise peace before, during and after the elections.

According to Natembeya, political disagreements should remain within the boundaries of democratic competition, with leaders expected to respect one another and allow voters to exercise their constitutional right to choose their representatives.

“We need peace during and after the election because leaders are chosen by God,” Natembeya said.

He further cautioned political leaders who currently support the government but may have ambitions of seeking elective positions in the future to avoid actions that could fuel unnecessary political divisions.

Natembeya said leaders should remember that political fortunes can change and that those seeking elective positions in future would also require a peaceful environment in which to campaign and seek support.

The governor's remarks are likely to intensify political discussions in Trans Nzoia as the 2027 race gradually takes shape.

While several political leaders are expected to position themselves for various elective positions, Natembeya has made it clear that he intends to defend his gubernatorial seat and will not step aside because of emerging competition.

He urged residents to remain united despite their political differences and to judge leaders based on their programmes and ability to serve the people.

Natembeya also called for responsible political mobilisation, saying leaders have a responsibility to protect the peace and stability of communities throughout the election period.

The governor's re-election declaration now sets the stage for an increasingly active political contest in Trans Nzoia, with potential aspirants and political parties expected to intensify their engagements with voters as the 2027 General Election approaches.
