Cherargei Tells Uhuru to “Shut Up” as Political War Escalates Ahead of 2027

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has launched a fresh attack on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, telling him to stop issuing what he termed “empty threats” and instead retreat from active politics.

Cherargei accused the former President of attempting to interfere with the country’s current political affairs despite having completed his two-term tenure. He claimed that Uhuru should concentrate on his affairs in Gatundu and watch what he described as Kenya’s transformation under President William Ruto.

The senator used strong language to dismiss Uhuru’s political influence, likening him to a “sterile bull” that, in his words, “can’t do nothing.”

Cherargei further accused the former Head of State of presiding over corruption, alleged plunder of public resources, marginalisation of some parts of the country and political persecution during his 10-year presidency. These are Cherargei’s political allegations, rather than independently established findings in his statement.

The remarks come amid renewed political exchanges between Uhuru and allies of President Ruto as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

On Saturday, October 3, Uhuru spoke during the burial of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County. He dismissed criticism from his political opponents, saying he was not seeking any political position and was satisfied with his record in public service.

Uhuru also cautioned Mt Kenya residents against what he described as repeating past political mistakes, remarks that were widely interpreted as referring to the choices made during the 2022 presidential election.

Cherargei’s latest comments add to a growing war of words between the retired President and Kenya Kwanza-aligned leaders, with both sides increasingly exchanging sharp political messages as the 2027 contest approaches.

The senator also appeared to mock a recent public interaction involving Uhuru and his political associates, using the phrase “Mtu na sponyo wake wakikutana in public after hiding for long” and claiming that “we have smoked out sponyo and sponyoreee.”

The escalating rhetoric signals the increasingly heated political environment surrounding Uhuru’s public interventions and the emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
