Bartoo Hails Historic Charter for Eldoret Teachers Training College as Uasin Gishu Gets First Diploma Teacher Training Institution

Moiben Member of Parliament Prof. Phyllis Bartoo has welcomed the issuance of a charter to Eldoret Teachers Training College in Tembelio, describing the milestone as a major breakthrough in expanding access to teacher training and strengthening education opportunities in Uasin Gishu County.

Bartoo said the handover of the charter by President William Ruto marks a defining moment in the region’s education journey, paving the way for the establishment of the first Diploma Teachers Training College in Uasin Gishu County.

The MP noted that the development will bring professional teacher training closer to residents, particularly young people aspiring to join the teaching profession, while creating new opportunities for skills development and career advancement.

According to Bartoo, the institution will play an important role in strengthening the education sector by providing aspiring educators with an opportunity to pursue teacher training within their home county, potentially reducing the need to travel to distant institutions in search of similar programmes.

She said the milestone reflects the importance of investing in educational infrastructure and expanding access to institutions that equip young people with the professional knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to national development.

Bartoo described the charter handover as a significant step towards improving access to education and supporting the development of a skilled workforce capable of meeting the country's growing demand for qualified professionals.

The MP further observed that bringing teacher training opportunities closer to local communities would benefit students, families and the wider community by opening up pathways to professional careers and supporting the growth of the education sector.

The establishment of Eldoret Teachers Training College in Tembelio is also expected to strengthen the position of Uasin Gishu County as an important education and training hub in the North Rift region.

With Eldoret and its surrounding areas already serving as a centre for various educational institutions, the development adds to the region's growing educational profile and presents an opportunity to expand access to specialised training programmes.

Bartoo said the achievement demonstrates the value of continued investment in education as a foundation for social and economic transformation, adding that initiatives that expand learning opportunities are essential in preparing young people for the future.

She reaffirmed her support for development programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents of Moiben Constituency and the wider Uasin Gishu County, particularly initiatives that promote education, skills development and opportunities for young people.

The MP also emphasised the need to sustain the momentum of development by supporting projects that directly benefit communities and contribute to the country's long-term development goals.

“Today marks a defining moment in our education journey as H.E. President William Ruto officially handed over the charter to Eldoret Teachers Training College Tembelio, paving the way for the first Diploma Teachers Training College in Uasin Gishu County,” Bartoo said.

She added that the milestone would expand opportunities for aspiring educators and reinforce the commitment to quality education and skills development.

“The journey of development continues. Kazi Inaendelea!” she stated.

The charter handover marks an important step in the development of Eldoret Teachers Training College and is expected to strengthen the region's capacity to provide teacher training opportunities to young people seeking to enter the profession.

As the institution advances under its new charter, attention will turn to the next phase of its development, including the expansion of training opportunities and the institution's role in supporting the country's education workforce.

For residents of Moiben and the wider Uasin Gishu County, the milestone represents renewed hope for greater access to professional training and increased opportunities for young people to pursue careers in education.
