KUCO ENDS A 42-DAY INDUSTRIAL STRIKE, CLINICAL OFFICERS TO RESUME DUTY IN 24-HOURS

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) National Secretary General George Gibore has today called off the 42-day strike, with all Clinical Officers in Taita Taveta expected to resume duty within 24 hours.

The strike was officially ended yesterday evening following the signing of a Return-to-Work Agreement during a two-day negotiation meetings attended by the County Government of Taita-Taveta, the County Government Public Service Board (CPSB), and KUCO.

The parties agreed on a framework to address issues raised in KUCO’s strike notice issued on 7th July 2026. The grievances include the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), improved risk allowances, clear career progression guidelines, and the issuance of Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) letters to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff.

KUCO National Secretary General George Gibore emphasized on unity, dialogue, and a shared commitment towards achieving the Universal Health Coverage with patients and healthcare workers welfare at the centre of the health system.

“UHC can only be achieved through unity between healthcare workers, unions and governments. When we come together, listen to one another and work towards common solutions, we can resolve challenges and build a stronger health system that serves our communities better,” Gibore said.

This return-to-work agreement marks a renewed commitment by all parties to continued dialogue, industrial harmony and improved healthcare delivery across Taita Taveta County.
