Kapsowar Ward MCA aspirant Komen Shule has urged residents to take advantage of government health programmes and exercise their democratic rights by registering as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Shule spoke on Friday when he joined residents of Kamoi Village in Kapsowar Ward to mourn and lay to rest Viola Kemboi, who passed away after a prolonged battle with illness.

During the burial ceremony, Shule conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, with a special message to Peer Kemboi and the entire family of the deceased.

He described the death as a major loss to the family and the wider community and called on relatives and friends to remain strong during the difficult period.

Shule prayed for comfort and strength for the family as they come to terms with the loss, while asking God to grant the late Viola Kemboi eternal rest.

Beyond the burial proceedings, the MCA aspirant used the gathering to highlight two issues he said are important to the welfare and future of residents of Kapsowar Ward — access to healthcare through the Social Health Authority (SHA) and voter registration.

Shule urges residents to register for SHA

Shule encouraged residents who have not yet registered for SHA to take immediate steps to do so, emphasising the importance of having access to healthcare coverage when medical needs arise.

He said his experience with the health scheme had demonstrated to him the importance of being covered, particularly when families are confronted with illnesses and medical emergencies that can place a heavy financial burden on households.

According to Shule, residents should not wait until they or their family members fall sick before seeking health coverage.

He urged households to treat SHA registration as an important step towards protecting their finances and ensuring that medical emergencies do not plunge families into poverty.

“Let us all register and secure our health. Illness should not make us poor,” was the message he shared with residents.

The call comes as healthcare costs continue to be a major concern for many Kenyan households, particularly those that struggle to meet expenses associated with prolonged illnesses and emergency treatment.

Shule said greater awareness and participation in available health programmes could help residents better prepare for unexpected medical needs.

Youth urged to acquire IDs and register as voters

Shule also turned his attention to the 2027 General Election, urging young people and all other eligible residents who have not registered as voters to take advantage of the ongoing registration opportunities.

He particularly appealed to young people who have reached voting age but have not yet acquired national identification documents to begin the process of obtaining IDs.

He said residents cannot afford to wait until the last minute to acquire the documents and complete voter registration.

According to the aspirant, voter registration is an important part of civic participation because it gives citizens an opportunity to determine the leaders they want to represent them at various levels of government.

He reminded residents that the 2027 elections are approaching and encouraged them to prepare early.

Shule said those seeking changes in leadership must first ensure that they have the necessary documents and are duly registered to vote.

He called on young people in particular to take an active role in shaping the future of their ward through participation in democratic processes.

Shule declares commitment to Kapsowar

Shule reiterated his ambition to represent Kapsowar Ward in the next elections, describing himself as the incoming MCA for the ward in 2027.

He said his leadership agenda would be centred on service, development and improving the welfare of residents.

The aspirant called for unity among residents, saying meaningful transformation would require collective effort and participation from the community.

His message at Kamoi comes as political activity gradually intensifies across many parts of the country ahead of the 2027 General Election, with aspiring leaders increasingly engaging residents through community events and public forums.

Shule's outreach combined a message of condolence to a bereaved family with calls for residents to take practical steps on healthcare and civic participation.

He maintained that development and effective leadership should be accompanied by an informed and actively participating citizenry.

As he continues his campaign for the Kapsowar Ward MCA seat, Shule has positioned his message around what he describes as servant leadership, development and community transformation.

He ended his message by wishing the people of Kamoi strength following the loss and praying for the late Viola Kemboi to rest in eternal peace.
