Governor Wisley Rotich, PS Chris Kiptoo Lead Kaptagat Cycling Challenge Ahead of Landmark KICP 10th Edition

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich on Saturday joined National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, alongside other leaders, in the Kaptagat Cycling Challenge, an event that attracted professional cyclists and cycling enthusiasts from across the region.

The cycling challenge served as a curtain-raiser for the highly anticipated 10th edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP), scheduled to take place on 11th July 2026.

Speaking during the event, leaders hailed the initiative for promoting environmental conservation while encouraging healthy lifestyles through sport. The challenge also highlighted the importance of protecting the Kaptagat Forest, one of Kenya's critical water towers, through community-driven conservation efforts.

Governor Rotich reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting environmental conservation initiatives, noting that preserving natural resources is key to sustainable development and improved livelihoods for local communities.

Dr. Chris Kiptoo commended the organizers for using sports as a platform to create awareness about environmental protection and community participation. He emphasized that the annual programme has grown into a significant event that unites government agencies, conservation partners, athletes, and residents around a common goal of safeguarding the Kaptagat ecosystem.

The Kaptagat Cycling Challenge brought together professional riders and recreational cyclists, showcasing the region's scenic landscapes while building momentum for next week's conservation programme.

The 10th edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme is expected to draw hundreds of participants, including government officials, environmental stakeholders, corporate partners, and members of the public, as efforts to restore and conserve the Kaptagat Forest continue to gain national attention.
