"Regulate, Don’t Ban Shisha!" — Cassypool Challenges CS Duale Over Kenya’s Tough Stance

Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Cassypool Capon has urged Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to reconsider the government's hardline position on shisha and instead adopt stricter regulations to control its use.

Speaking amid renewed debate over Kenya's shisha ban, Cassypool argued that a complete prohibition may not be the most effective way to address health concerns associated with smoking.

According to him, proper regulation would enable the government to monitor and control the industry while minimizing illegal trade and unregulated consumption.

"A total ban risks driving the business underground, making enforcement even more difficult for authorities," Cassypool said.

He maintained that a regulated framework would strike a balance between protecting public health and managing the industry responsibly.

"Regulation would provide a balanced approach that protects public health without driving the trade underground," he stated.

Cassypool further emphasized that strict oversight, licensing requirements, and compliance measures would be more practical and effective than a blanket ban.

"Responsible oversight and strict compliance measures would be more practical than a blanket ban," he added.

His remarks come as discussions continue over the health risks linked to shisha smoking and the government's efforts to curb tobacco and nicotine use, particularly among young people.

The issue has remained controversial since Kenya outlawed the manufacture, sale, promotion, and use of shisha through regulations introduced by the Ministry of Health.

Cassypool's comments have sparked mixed reactions online. While some Kenyans support regulation as a middle-ground solution, others insist the ban should remain in place due to the health risks associated with shisha smoking.

Health experts continue to warn that shisha users may be exposed to harmful chemicals, increasing the risk of addiction, respiratory illnesses, and other long-term health complications.
