Natembeya Hosts Gachagua, Kalonzo and Matiang’i as United Opposition Draws Huge Crowds in Kitale

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Sunday hosted top opposition leaders in Kitale as the United Opposition concluded its high-profile Western Kenya "Meet the People" tour with a major rally aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The opposition delegation was led by Governor Natembeya and brought together a formidable lineup of leaders, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.

The Kitale rally marked the climax of a multi-county tour across Western Kenya, where opposition leaders engaged residents on governance, economic challenges, unemployment, the high cost of living, and the country's political future.

Addressing thousands of supporters, the leaders presented a united front and pledged to work together in offering what they described as an alternative leadership vision for Kenya ahead of the next General Election. Governor Natembeya welcomed the opposition leaders to Trans Nzoia, saying the county was ready to play a key role in shaping the country's political direction.

Rigathi Gachagua urged opposition leaders to remain united and focused on grassroots mobilization, while Kalonzo Musyoka called for national unity and reforms aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Kenyans.

DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa emphasized the strategic importance of Western Kenya in the country's political landscape, noting that the region would play a decisive role in future electoral contests.

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi challenged leaders to prioritize accountability and institutional reforms, while Fred Matiang’i received a warm reception from supporters as he joined fellow opposition figures during the rally.

Matiang’i, who serves as Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader, reiterated the need for issue-based politics and called on leaders to focus on solutions to the economic and social challenges facing Kenyans.

The Kitale gathering underscored the growing cooperation among opposition leaders as political realignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections. Analysts view the Western Kenya tour as one of the opposition's most significant grassroots mobilization drives in recent months, bringing together leaders from different political backgrounds under a common platform.

The rally ended with the leaders expressing confidence that continued engagement with citizens across the country would strengthen their movement and shape the national political conversation in the coming years.
