Julius Bitok Moved to Tourism as Ruto Reshuffles Top Government Officials

President William Ruto's administration has announced a fresh reshuffle of Principal Secretaries, with Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok reassigned to the State Department for Tourism.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the changes take effect immediately. Bitok will swap positions with John Lekakeny Ololtuaa, who has been serving as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Tourism.

Under the new changes, Ololtuaa will now take charge of the State Department for Basic Education, replacing Bitok.

Koskei said the reassignments are aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening the implementation of government programmes across key sectors.

Bitok has overseen major education reforms during his tenure at the Ministry of Education, including the rollout and implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). His transfer to the tourism docket places him at the centre of efforts to boost Kenya's tourism sector, a key contributor to the country's economy.

Ololtuaa, who previously served in the tourism sector, now takes over the Basic Education docket at a time when the government continues to address challenges facing the education sector, including infrastructure development, teacher deployment and CBC implementation.

The latest changes underscore the government's continued efforts to realign leadership within the public service to meet evolving national priorities.
