KABUCHAI MP MAJIMBO KALASINGA DISTANCES HIMSELF FROM DIDMUS BARASA OVER CONDUCT AT FUNERAL FUNCTIONS

Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has publicly expressed disappointment over the conduct of Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa during funeral gatherings in the region, citing repeated incidents that he says have undermined the dignity and sanctity of burial ceremonies.

Speaking alongside church leaders under the guidance of His Holiness Bishop Mark Kadima, Kalasinga said funeral services are sacred occasions intended to honor the deceased, comfort grieving families, and unite communities during difficult moments. He noted that leaders attending such events are expected to demonstrate humility, patience, respect, and solidarity with mourners.

According to Kalasinga, concerns have emerged over what he described as a recurring pattern where Barasa allegedly departs with groups of supporters immediately after addressing mourners, leaving church leaders, bereaved families, and other attendees feeling disregarded.

The Kabuchai legislator singled out events witnessed during a funeral gathering at Khachonge, describing them as unfortunate and embarrassing. He said the incidents disrupted the solemn atmosphere expected during funeral proceedings and created unnecessary confusion among mourners and invited guests.

"Funeral ceremonies should never be turned into platforms for disorder or political confrontation. They are moments for reflection, unity, and support for grieving families," Kalasinga stated.

As a result of the repeated concerns, Kalasinga announced that he is dissociating himself from Barasa's political campaign, arguing that the leadership style being displayed does not reflect the values and expectations of the people of Kabuchai Constituency and Bungoma County.

The MP further declared that in future public functions and funeral gatherings where he is present, political leaders will only be allowed to address mourners after the completion of church services or funeral proceedings. He added that leaders who are unwilling to observe the protocol would be free to leave without addressing the gathering.

Kalasinga emphasized that leadership demands discipline, humility, and respect for community institutions, particularly during sensitive occasions involving bereaved families.

At the same time, he commended leaders who attended the Khachonge funeral for demonstrating restraint and respect throughout the event. He specifically acknowledged the presence and support of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Senator Bonny Khalwale, Dr. Wilberforce Oundo, Jack Wamboka, Erick Wekesa MCA, and other leaders.

The MP also praised local youths for what he termed their efforts in safeguarding order during the event, alleging that they helped prevent disruptions from individuals who had reportedly been ferried into the area to heckle leaders.

Kalasinga reaffirmed his commitment to the "Linda Mwananchi" agenda, saying he remains focused on championing accountable leadership and development for the people. He expressed confidence that a leadership movement centered on service delivery and respect for citizens would continue to gain support across the country.

"We remain committed to Linda Mwananchi and to delivering the kind of leadership that Kenyans have been yearning for under the stewardship of Edwin Sifuna and like-minded leaders," Kalasinga said.
