Geoffrey Mosiria Helps Clear Ruai Woman Accused of Poisoning Child

Nairobi  former Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has spoken out after meeting Joyce Onyango, a woman who had been accused of poisoning a four-year-old child in Ruai, saying investigations have since cleared her of any wrongdoing.

In a statement shared on Monday, Mosiria said he became involved in the matter after the child’s mother approached him seeking assistance and requesting a platform to air her concerns and help trace Joyce, who had reportedly left her workplace following a disagreement.

Mosiria explained that he agreed to assist in good faith to ensure the allegations were brought to public attention and investigated.

Following the public appeal, Joyce voluntarily presented herself at Umoja Two Police Station to cooperate with investigators.

According to Mosiria, a postmortem examination later established that the child died from pneumonia and other underlying infections, contrary to earlier claims that the child had been poisoned.

“Today, I gave Joyce a platform to clear her name and restore her dignity after the unfortunate accusations,” Mosiria said.

He further revealed that he had assisted Joyce in securing a new casual job at a private institution where she will now earn a monthly salary of Ksh17,000.

Mosiria noted that Joyce had previously been earning Ksh6,000 per month, with deductions leaving her with a take-home pay of only Ksh5,000.

The county official used the incident to urge members of the public to avoid rushing to conclusions before investigations are completed.

“This is a reminder to all of us that justice must always be guided by facts and truth, not assumptions,” he stated.

He wished Joyce success as she begins a new chapter in her life following the ordeal that had subjected her to public scrutiny and accusations.
