Fire guts St Joseph's Seminary School dormitory as students escape safely
By Emmanuel Kipkorir
A dormitory at St Joseph's Seminary School in Molo was destroyed by fire on Saturday night at around 10 p.m., in yet another alarming school blaze in the region.
The fire reportedly broke out as students were preparing to retire to bed. All learners were safely evacuated in time, and no injuries were reported. However, the dormitory block was completely razed, with personal belongings and school property worth millions of shillings lost in the inferno.
Firefighters from the Nakuru County Government Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to other school buildings.
Videos circulating from the incident showed the dormitory engulfed in flames as students and staff watched from a safe distance. The cause of the fire has not yet been established, with investigations ongoing.
The incident has heightened concern across the region, coming just days after a deadly suspected arson fire at Utumishi Girls' Academy in Gilgil that claimed 16 students’ lives. Survivors from that tragedy are currently receiving treatment at St Joseph's Mission Hospital.
