“Face Me Like a Man!” — Shollei Explodes After Moiben Chaos as MP Sholei Flees Angry Crowd
Tension rocked Moiben after Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei lashed out at Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim following dramatic scenes that reportedly saw area MP Philemon Shokwei chased away by an angry crowd during a public function.
The incident unfolded during the distribution of milk coolers under a national government programme aimed at supporting dairy farmers in Moiben Constituency. What was expected to be a development event quickly turned chaotic after rival political camps clashed, forcing leaders allied to the county government into an embarrassing retreat.
Speaking after the disruption, Shollei accused Governor Bii of orchestrating the chaos through his supporters in a bid to frustrate the programme and deny local farmers the benefits of the national government initiative.
“This is juvenile behavior. If the governor has an issue with me, he should face me like a man instead of sending goons to disrupt a programme meant to help wananchi,” Shollei said.
The outspoken Woman Representative claimed the governor had become increasingly insecure because his administration allegedly lacks visible development projects, forcing him to “cling onto and politicize” national government programmes.
According to witnesses, the situation escalated after leaders allied to the county government attempted to address the crowd, triggering chants and protests from sections of residents. In the confusion, Moiben MP Shokwei was reportedly forced to flee as rowdy youths surged toward the dais.
Videos circulating online showed dramatic scenes of shouting, running, and heavy tension as security officers struggled to restore order.
Shollei maintained that the milk cooler project was fully funded through the national government and should not be turned into a political battleground.
“Farmers are suffering and need support. Instead of fighting development projects, leaders should focus on service delivery,” she added.
The latest fallout exposes the widening political rift between Shollei and Governor Bii ahead of the region’s intensifying succession politics. Analysts say the public clashes could reshape political alliances in Uasin Gishu as leaders position themselves for future contests.
By press time, Governor Bii’s camp had not officially responded to Shollei’s accusations over the Moiben incident.
