Community Initiative to Combine Tree Planting and Student Mentorship in Soy Sub-County

Residents of Soy Sub-County are set to benefit from a new environmental and educational initiative scheduled for May 22, 2026, in Ziwa Ward.

The program, themed “Trees Planting & Mentorship,” aims to promote environmental conservation while inspiring young learners through mentorship activities. The initiative is being spearheaded by chairman Stephen Tanui.

According to promotional materials released ahead of the event, the exercise will focus on two major activities: a large-scale tree planting campaign and a student mentorship program targeting schools and community institutions within the ward.

Organizers say the tree planting exercise is intended to support efforts to green the community and encourage residents to take part in environmental conservation. At the same time, the mentorship sessions will seek to motivate and guide students toward academic excellence and positive social values.

The event is expected to take place across several institutions in Ziwa Ward, including Ziwa Hospital, Ziwa Police Station, Chepkigen Primary School, and Chepkigen Secondary School, among other community locations.

Community members, students, and local leaders are expected to participate in the exercise, which organizers describe as a step toward building a greener environment and empowering the next generation through mentorship and education.

The initiative reflects a growing trend of community-led programs that combine environmental sustainability with youth empowerment in local communities across Kenya.
