Miano’s Golden Touch: Driving Kenya’s Tourism and Wildlife Transformation

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano (EGH) has once again demonstrated her results-driven leadership and commitment to national development during her appearance before the National Assembly of Kenya Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife.

Joined by Principal Secretaries Sylvia Museiya and John Ololtuaa, CS Miano engaged the Committee in a strategic discussion on the Ministry’s priority areas for budgetary allocation—placing tourism and wildlife at the center of Kenya’s economic growth and national identity.

In her submission, Miano underscored the critical importance of sustained investment in the sector, noting that tourism remains a key driver of foreign exchange earnings, employment, and community livelihoods. To maintain Kenya’s global leadership, she highlighted the urgent need to strengthen human-wildlife conflict mitigation measures, including enhanced compensation frameworks and the construction of physical barriers to protect communities.

She further emphasized the need to boost the capacity of rangers, recognizing their indispensable role in safeguarding Kenya’s rich biodiversity. Strengthening ranger welfare, training, and operational support, she noted, is essential in protecting ecosystems while reinforcing Kenya’s standing as a global conservation leader.

At the heart of the Ministry’s growth strategy is the scaling up of the Magical Kenya brand. Through innovative marketing and strategic partnerships, the Ministry is driving increased visitor numbers and unlocking new economic opportunities across the country.

CS Miano expressed appreciation to the Parliamentary Committee for its commitment to addressing funding gaps, noting that continued collaboration between the Executive and Legislature will be key to ensuring the Ministry delivers effectively for all Kenyans.

Beyond policy and strategy, Miano’s leadership continues to stand out for its human touch. Widely regarded as a leader with a “heart of gold,” she has built a reputation for delivering beyond expectations and leaving a lasting footprint in every assignment she undertakes. Her approach—grounded in integrity, efficiency, and impact—has earned her admiration across government and the public alike.

As Kenya advances its position on the global tourism map, CS Miano’s steady and visionary leadership is proving instrumental in shaping a resilient, inclusive, and high-performing tourism and wildlife sector—one that not only drives economic growth but also reflects the pride and identity of the nation.
