Marakwet West MP Urges Residents to Participate in UDA Grassroots Elections

Residents of Marakwet West Constituency have been urged to turn out in large numbers to participate in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich called on party supporters across the constituency to actively take part in the exercise, terming it a crucial step in strengthening the party’s leadership structure at the grassroots level.

In a message to residents, Toroitich emphasized the importance of planning and civic participation in building strong political institutions. He cited the famous words of Benjamin Franklin, who once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail,” noting that the upcoming elections represent a deliberate effort by the United Democratic Alliance to organize and empower its grassroots structures.

According to the legislator, the party will begin a vital process of strengthening its internal leadership through an elective process at polling centers across the constituency. The exercise will allow party members to elect leaders who will represent them at the grassroots level.

Toroitich explained that individuals seeking to serve in the polling station leadership positions will be elected through universal suffrage, meaning registered party members will directly vote for their preferred candidates.

He further noted that a total of 20 positions will be contested during the exercise at the polling stations. However, he urged residents to ensure that all candidates are voted for, even in positions where the number of candidates matches the number of available slots.

“Those who have offered themselves to serve in these positions must still be voted for, regardless of whether their positions are contested or not,” he said.

The MP stressed that the grassroots elections are an important opportunity for party members to shape the future leadership of the party at the local level and strengthen democratic participation within the party.

He encouraged residents of Marakwet West to show up in large numbers at their respective polling centers to take part in the process and elect leaders who will help drive the party’s agenda in the region.

Toroitich concluded his message by expressing optimism about the exercise and calling for peaceful and orderly participation by all party members.

“To God be the glory,” he added.
