Meru Police Nab Two Suspected Drug Traffickers, Seize Cannabis Valued at Sh630,000

In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking, law enforcement officers in Meru have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered a substantial quantity of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as bhang.

Acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a raid on a rental house in the Municipality area, Mwiteria sub-location. During the operation, detectives recovered 22 kilograms of bhang and 440 rolls, with an estimated street value of Sh630,000. Additional items seized included rolling papers, a digital weighing scale, 38 black courier bags, and a National Youth Service smoke jacket, all pointing to a well-coordinated drug operation.

The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Mutuma and 21-year-old Duncan Murithi, were arrested at the scene. They were taken to Meru Police Station along with the recovered exhibits, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling narcotics trafficking, emphasizing that intelligence-led operations and coordinated enforcement remain central to dismantling drug networks across the country.

“This operation is part of our intensified national crackdown on illicit drugs,” a DCI spokesperson said. “We will continue to target those who traffic in illegal substances and ensure they face the full force of the law.”

Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity to help strengthen efforts against drug trafficking and protect communities from the dangers associated with narcotics abuse.

This latest seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the availability of illicit drugs in Meru and beyond, sending a clear message that those involved in drug trafficking will be brought to justice.
