Kenya Police Reservist Shot Dead in Bandit Attack in Pura, Samburu
A Kenya Police Reservist (KPR) was shot dead on Tuesday following an ambush by suspected bandits in Pura area, Samburu County, in an attack believed to have been carried out by cattle rustlers from Tiaty, Baringo County. Another reservist sustained serious injuries in the incident.
According to local authorities, the attack occurred when the suspected bandits ambushed the two KPR officers, opening fire before fleeing the scene. Area residents responded swiftly, rushing the injured reservist to Maralal Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency (KNA) in Loosuk, Assistant County Commissioner Peter Mutiso confirmed the incident and said security personnel had been deployed to pursue the attackers, who are believed to have escaped towards the Malabo Valley.
Mr Mutiso described the deceased reservist as a dedicated and hardworking officer who had played a key role in maintaining security in the area. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as operations continue to track down the suspects.
He also commended the people of Pura for their continued collaboration with security teams, noting that community support remains critical in efforts to curb banditry and enhance safety in the region.
Security agencies have intensified patrols in the area as investigations into the incident continue.
