Elgeyo Marakwet County Launches Policy to Streamline Environmental Initiatives

The Elgeyo Marakwet County Government is set to implement a new landscape restoration policy aimed at addressing fragmented environmental initiatives and improving ecosystem management across the region.

The policy seeks to unite all stakeholders involved in ecosystem restoration, providing a coordinated approach and standard methodology for implementation. Currently, a lack of collective effort among departments in both national and county governments has resulted in unclear procedures and timelines, hampering progress in environmental conservation.

“The landscape restoration policy will promote a multi-stakeholder approach, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between national and county governments. Our goal is to create a cohesive system that delivers tangible results for environmental conservation,” said a county official involved in the policy development.

Environmentalists and local communities have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a much-needed solution to longstanding challenges in managing the county’s natural resources. The policy is expected to promote sustainable land use practices, conserve biodiversity, and improve the livelihoods of residents dependent on the environment.

The county government is working closely with the World Resources Institute to develop and implement the policy, emphasizing evidence-based approaches and best practices in landscape restoration.

This initiative positions Elgeyo Marakwet County as a leader in coordinated environmental management, providing a model for other regions seeking to integrate multi-sector efforts in conservation.
