CS Interior Kipchumba Murkomen Launches Security Initiatives to Curb Banditry in Meru County

 


Cabinet Secretary for the Interior Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged a robust response to security challenges in Meru County, announcing intelligence-led operations aimed at ending banditry in the region.

Speaking after a consultative meeting with security agencies and county leaders, Murkomen said the government is committed to ensuring safety, fostering community cohesion, and improving service delivery for residents.

“We have resolved to embark on an intelligence-led operation to end banditry attacks in Meru and the surrounding regions. This operation will be sustained until the area is fully secure,” said Murkomen.

He also highlighted plans to construct security roads to improve accessibility and integrate National Police Reservists (NPR) into peacekeeping and law enforcement efforts.

Murkomen lauded county leaders for their strong partnership in enhancing security and governance. Present at the meeting were Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, MPs Rindikiri Mugambi (Buuri), Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Dr. John Mutunga (Tigania West), Daniel Karitho (Igembe Central), Julius Taitumu (Igembe North), Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni, Speaker Ayub Bundi, and various MCAs.

Key security officials attending the meeting included Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General (KPS) Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, Director of DCI Mohammed Amin, GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, and Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora.

The coordinated initiative marks a decisive step by the national and county governments to enhance security, improve access, and strengthen law enforcement in Meru County, with sustained operations expected to restore safety and confidence among residents.
