Babu Owino Highlights Struggles of Residents During Visit to Akala, Gem Constituency
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has raised fresh concerns about the rising cost of living and shrinking opportunities faced by ordinary Kenyans, following an emotional visit to Akala in Gem Constituency yesterday.
Speaking after interacting with residents, Owino described the experience as “powerful and deeply moving,” noting that what he witnessed reflects the daily struggles of millions across the country.
“I saw mothers fighting to feed their families, young people searching for opportunities that seem just out of reach, and hardworking men and women carrying the weight of a system that has not always been fair to them,” he said.
Owino emphasized that he was addressing the public not only as a political leader but as a fellow Kenyan who understands their pain, frustration, and aspirations in a difficult economic environment.
“We are living through a time when the cost of living has become unbearable, when opportunities are shrinking instead of growing, and when corruption steals from us,” he added.
Residents in Akala reportedly shared concerns over rising prices of food and essentials, limited access to jobs for youths, and persistent corruption that they say continues to undermine development.
The MP pledged to continue advocating for economic reforms, transparency, and youth empowerment both in Parliament and in national discourse. He urged leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens over political interests.
Owino’s comments come at a time when many Kenyans are increasingly vocal about economic hardship, with public pressure mounting on government institutions to act decisively.
