Uasin Gishu Unveils Bold Digital Strategy to Empower Youth in the AI Era
Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii said the establishment and equipping of ICT centres and the rollout of countywide Wi-Fi hotspots are among key interventions aimed at empowering youth and nurturing a culture of innovation.
Speaking in Eldoret during the inaugural Kenya Software and AI Summit, graced by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Dr. Bii affirmed that his administration recognizes young people as the driving force behind technological advancement and sustainable economic growth.
“In this era of Artificial Intelligence, it is imperative that we create avenues for our youth to fully harness the immense opportunities available in the digital space,” said Dr. Bii.
The Governor noted that the county is implementing a free wireless internet programme across major towns and trading centres to enable young innovators to access digital resources, develop solutions, and transform their skills into viable enterprises.
Dr. Bii underscored the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming lives, businesses, and governance, especially in the digital economy and agricultural sectors.
“Our goal is clear: to build a smart, innovative city where AI strengthens all pillars under Nguzo Kumi,” he added.
The three-day summit, hosted at Moi University School of Law, has brought together technology experts, policymakers, innovators, and investors to explore the intersection of AI, software development, and national digital transformation.
Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, together with senior national and county government officials, also attended the summit.
The event marks a significant milestone in positioning Uasin Gishu as a regional technology hub, aligning with Kenya’s broader agenda to promote digital inclusion and innovation-driven growth.
