Samia Suluhu Re-Elected President of Tanzania in Landslide Victory
Tanzania’s incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been declared the winner of the country’s presidential election in a landslide victory, securing an overwhelming 31,913,866 votes, or 98% of the total ballots cast, according to official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Her closest challenger, Chaumu, trailed far behind with just 213,414 votes (0.65%), while the remaining votes were split among minor candidates.
The INEC Chairperson announced the results late Friday evening in Dar es Salaam, describing the election as “largely peaceful and transparent.”
President Samia’s victory cements her position as Tanzania’s first female president and extends her leadership following her initial ascent to office in 2021 after the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli.
In her victory speech, President Samia expressed gratitude to Tanzanians for their “unwavering trust” and pledged to continue her agenda of economic reform, infrastructure development, and strengthening democratic institutions.
“This victory belongs to every Tanzanian who believes in peace, unity, and progress,” she said to cheering supporters in Dodoma. “Together, we will continue building a prosperous nation that leaves no one behind.”
Opposition figures have yet to issue official statements, though early indications suggest some parties may challenge the results, citing alleged irregularities in vote counting.
International observers from the African Union and East African Community commended the calm atmosphere during the polls but urged authorities to address concerns raised by opposition monitors to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
