President Ruto Flags Off Construction of 22km Kivandini–Miseleni Road as Mwala Secures Major Development Boosts
Kenya’s infrastructure development agenda received a major lift after H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto officially launched the upgrade of the 22-kilometre Kivandini–Miseleni Road to bitumen standards in Mwala Constituency, Machakos County. The KSh1.7 billion project is part of a larger plan to roll out 360 kilometres of new roads across the county, signalling expanded government investment in regional connectivity.
President Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s road network to enhance mobility, strengthen trade, and unlock economic opportunities for communities. The upgraded Kivandini–Miseleni Road is expected to ease movement, enhance market access, and spur investment in Mwala and the wider Machakos region.
“This development underscores our dedication to building reliable infrastructure that supports inclusive growth and empowers Kenyans to achieve their full potential,” the President stated.
Mwala MP Eng. Vincent Musyoka Musau (Kawaya) praised the launch, describing it as a transformative moment for the people of Mwala, particularly the agriculturally rich Mbiuni Ward.
“Today marks a transformative milestone for the people of Mwala following the official launch of works to upgrade the Kivandini–Miseleni Road,” Hon. Kawaya said. “For decades, farmers have endured poor road networks that limited market access and reduced their earnings. This upgrade is not just an infrastructure improvement—it is an economic lifeline that will boost trade, reduce transport costs, and stimulate growth across our communities.”
During the event, President Ruto also announced KSh150 million for the construction of two modern markets in the constituency. The new markets are expected to provide dignified trading spaces for thousands of small-scale traders, expand commerce, and uplift local livelihoods.
In addition, the President allocated another KSh150 million for the construction of student hostels at Mwala Technical. The investment aims to increase accommodation capacity, improve student welfare, and position the institution as a key hub for technical and vocational training in the region.
On water security, President Ruto confirmed that the Mwala Cluster Water Project is 60% complete, with commissioning expected in the next four months. Once operational, the project will improve access to clean and reliable water for households, institutions, and businesses across the constituency.
Hon. Kawaya noted that these collective interventions demonstrate the government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting communities through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, trade, and water supply. He reaffirmed the readiness of local leaders and residents to support the swift and successful rollout of the development projects.
“Today’s announcements signal a brighter, more prosperous future for Mwala,” Kawaya said. “Let us continue walking together on this journey of progress and nation-building.”
