Kenya, China Deepen Cooperation on Gender Equality, Says PS Wangombe

Gender Principal Secretary Ann Wangombe has announced new areas of collaboration between Kenya and China following a bilateral meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan in Nairobi on Tuesday.

PS Wangombe said the talks marked another step in strengthening long-standing cooperation on gender equality, noting China’s continued support in advancing women’s empowerment programmes.

She lauded Beijing for its role in the successful Post-CSW69 High-Level Dialogue on the Beijing+30 Action Agenda, which Kenya co-hosted earlier this year, and praised the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) for its work in promoting women’s economic inclusion, legal protection and family education.

According to the PS, the two sides agreed to expand collaboration in several priority areas, including women’s entrepreneurship, digital economy opportunities, and capacity-building for aspiring women political leaders.

The talks also focused on leveraging technology to counter election-related gender-based violence, strengthening support systems for survivors of GBV and enhancing the establishment of safe spaces across the country.

“We are committed to building systems that protect women and girls while enabling them to thrive economically and socially,” Ms. Wangombe said.

Kenya and China further explored partnerships to promote STEM education for girls, including mentorship initiatives, exchange programmes, scholarships and creating safe learning environments that nurture innovation.

PS Wangombe said the enhanced cooperation aligns with the country’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and reflects Kenya’s commitment to empowering women and girls in emerging fields of science and technology.

She expressed confidence that the strengthened partnership would accelerate progress on gender equality in both nations.
