Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba Champions Legislation on Food Rights
Githunguri Member of Parliament, Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, today convened a breakfast meeting with key stakeholders to deliberate on legislative measures aimed at strengthening food rights in Kenya.
Speaking during the session hosted by The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), Hon. Wamuchomba underscored the urgent need for strategic planning to avert an impending food crisis, noting that Kenya, with a median population age of 19.5 years, faces a critical moment in safeguarding its food security.
The meeting brought together Hon. Dr. John Mutunga, Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Mr. Christian Schinnieper, Country Director of Welthungerhilfe, and members of the Right to Food Coalition, among other sector players.
Hon. Wamuchomba expressed gratitude for the national recognition of the successful School Feeding Programme in Githunguri Constituency, a model that continues to impact thousands of learners. She further revealed plans to extend similar support to the elderly, reaffirming her commitment to inclusive and sustainable community welfare initiatives.
“Our young people and senior citizens alike deserve the dignity of nutritious food. This is not just about policy — it’s about humanity,” she remarked.
